Singapore’s first gamelan festival, jointly organized by The Republic Cultural Centre (TRCC) and Singapore’s pioneer gamelan ensemble, Gamelan Asmaradana, will take place on 20th – 22nd Nov 2007.  Be immersed in all styles of gamelan in this exciting 3-day event. Featuring seminars and workshops by local and regional experts as well as performances by students, community and professional groups, this event will have something for everyone. The theme for this year’s festival is “Sekaran” and will celebrate growth and flowering of gamelan music in Singapore.

Dance"Enchanting Dances and Stories from Java"

What happens when a distinguished older man falls in love with a beautiful younger woman, who is already deeply in love with a younger man? Come watch this operatic dance drama based on a Javanese folktale about a love-triangular relationship between three characters, plus several other fascinating legends and stories in this performance of dance and music. See the rare Golek Asmaradana and Topeng Gunungsari dances performed by some of the best dancers and musicians from Yogyakarta, including an excerpt from the great epic, Mahabharata. Scandal, Love, Lust, Power-struggle and Passion… all in one show!
